New Project: Investigating language teacher cognition on education for sustainability

Dr Shu Ohki has been awarded a University of Melbourne Early Career Reseacher Grant to undertake a new project, Investigating Language Teacher Cognition on Education for Sustainability.

This project aims to examine language teacher cognition—“what teachers know, believe, think, and do” (Borg, 2003, p. 81)—on education for sustainability, one of the cross-curriculum priorities in the Australian curriculum that all teachers have shared responsibilities of. This project will be situated in the context of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL)—a pedagogical innovation for simultaneously teaching new language (e.g., Japanese) and content (e.g., Science)—and aims to provide a worthwhile contribution to CLIL teacher education in Australia, and Australian language teacher education more broadly.

The University of Melbourne’s Early Career Research (ECR) Grant scheme aims to support early career researchers to undertake high quality projects and pilot studies, strengthen their track records, and enhance their profile for competitive external funding. This scheme is a core part of the University’s research development strategy, which places a high priority on supporting ECRs.

Congratulations Shu!
